Wimberley Lions Launch Community Forum Series:
“The Wimberley Flood—Progress Since 2015 & The Road Ahead”

WIMBERLEY, Texas—The Wimberley Lions Club opens its first quarterly Public Forum series with a free-to-the-public meeting centered on the aftermath of the Wimberley flood—taking stock of progress since 2015 and charting the road ahead.

The Lions’ forum series—free and open to all—is designed to bring residents together to explore and discuss topics that matter most to the larger Wimberley community.

The first forum in the series, “The Wimberley Flood—Progress Since 2015 & The Road Ahead,” will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Wimberley's Community Center, bringing together local leaders, experts, and residents for open discussion, education, and planning for the future of Wimberley citizens.

A panel of speakers will reflect on lessons learned, examine how emergency services have evolved, review Hays County’s plans for disaster preparedness, and discuss what still needs to be done to protect residents and property from future natural disasters.

Panelists include Mike Jones, Director of Hays County Emergency Services, Rebecca Minnick, Mayor Pro Tem of Wimberley, Jeff Rasco, Mayor of Woodcreek, Ken Strange of the Wimberley EMS, and Chris Robbins of the Wimberley Fire Department. Together panelists represent local emergency services, Hays County, and those who have been directly involved in local recovery and preparedness efforts.

Dr. Patrick Cox will serve as moderator and a representative of emergency services.

Lions will provide guests a handout summarizing the historic 2015 flood that forever changed the town. Audience members will have the opportunity to submit written questions and share their perspectives before the event.

“This series is about coming together as a community—not only to remember what happened but also to plan for the future,” said Mindy Curnutt, President of the Wimberley Lions Club. “We want residents to leave each session with both useful information and a sense of shared purpose.”

Future sessions in the series will address additional topics of importance to Wimberley, with details to be announced soon.
