San Antonio Chamber Music Society launches its 82nd concert season on October 13, 2024, with VOCES8!
The 82nd season of the San Antonio Chamber Music Society kicks off on October 13, 2024, with the 2023 Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble VOCES8. Touring globally, this much-beloved vocal octet consistently thrills audiences with an extensive repertoire ranging from Renaissance music and folk song to jazz, pop and original compositions. You will hear a diverse musical selection of favorite songs chosen from the first 20 years of VOCES8, including works by Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Weelkes, Orlando Di Lasso, Jake Runestad, Rachmaninov, Nat ‘King’ Cole, Otis Blackwell, Felix Mendelssohn, Caroline Shaw, Edward Elgar, Kate Rusby, Ben Folds, Paul Simon, Marvin Hamlisch, Carole Bayer Sager, Don McLean and George Gershwin.
Of the VOCES8 singers : Andrea Haines, MaryRuth Miller, Katie Jeffries-Harris, Barnaby Smith, Blake Morgan, Euan Williamson, Christopher Moore and Dominick Carver, BBC Music Magazine says their ‘gorgeous sound, impeccable ensemble and intense responsiveness to text, harmony and melodic sound is all of the highest quality,’ and ‘(H)earing them sing is a joy.’
This 82nd season will continue on November 17, 2024, when the acclaimed Verona Quartet joins the indisputable pipa master Wu Man, a founding member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Project, in a collaboration that crosses cultural boundaries combining classical string quartet with the traditional Chinese lute in what promises to be an electrifying concert. Next on the lineup: the 3Esprit Trio, consisting of former Juilliard String Quartet first violinist Joseph Lin, renowned cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, and San Antonio’s Daniel Anastasio, pianist and Artistic Director of Agarita Chamber Players, will present fresh interpretations of great classical works in their debut concert on January 26, 2025. The penultimate concert of the season, on March 2, 2025, will feature the young Poiesis Quartet, 2023 Grand Prize winner of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and 2024 Concert Artist Guild Competition Winner. Finally, back by popular demand, the Isadore String Quartet, winner of the 14th Baff International String Quartet Competition in 2022, and a 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant, will close the season with an unforgettable grand finale of a concert on May 4, 2025.
