Quilt in a Jar Workshop

Quilt in a Jar Workshop

The UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures will welcome the African American Quilt Circle of San Antonio, which will conduct a quilting workshop, teaching basic sewing and quilting skills.

The ITC will supply each participant a jar containing materials to create a quilted “mug rug.” They will learn about the history and practice of hand quilting techniques such as improv piecing and slow stitching. UTSA Library reference books on quilting will be available.

The workshop is offered in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition The Fabric of a People: Black American Quilting in Texas, opening February 10. The exhibition presents the work of the AAQC-SA and their commitment to sharing the histories of Black Texans while preserving the traditions of Black quilting.

The workshop will start promptly at 11 AM and run until 3 PM. It is intended for ages 18+ and limited to 20 seats. RSVP: https://texancultures.utsa.edu/event/quilt-in-a-jar-workshop/
