Queer Voices Storytelling Workshop

Queer Voices Storytelling Workshop

Come sign up for our storytelling workshop for queer voices led by local wordsmith Chibbi Orduña! Participants in this four-part program will learn how to craft their own personal narrative, refine it, and perform it, culminating in a storytelling event open to the public. Stories will revolve around a central theme, common in queer life, that of finding family or creating one’s chosen family. The dates and breakdown of the workshop is as follows: Saturday, 4/24 (1 – 3 PM) – You will learn the craft of creating a story. Topics will include narrative flow and writing techniques to describe personal experience. You will be asked to begin writing the first draft of their own story to be completed by the next session. Saturday, 5/8 (1-3 PM) – Everyone will workshop their stories together with feedback provided by Chibbi and each other. This session will focus on editing and refining stories. Saturday, 5/15 (1-3 PM) – You will learn performance techniques for telling your story out loud. Topics include pacing, projecting your voice, and, of course, dealing with stage nerves to deliver an awesome performance to match your story. Saturday, 5/22 (3 – 5 PM) – The library will host a public Zoom program MC’ed by Chibbi where you will bring all your hard work together and tell your story. **Register through the events calendar at mysapl.org**
