¡Qué Sabor! San Antonio™ Lotería: A Connection to Food & Culture - opening reception
Playing the game of Lotería ( aka, Mexican Bingo ) has been a long-standing tradition in households across San Antonio and the South. This unique new version by photographer Tracey Maurer is called, ¡Que Sabor! San Antonio™. Her variation of the game captures our “local flavor” by showcasing dozens of traditional and iconic local food favorites. Created in the spirit of the historic games from Mexico and Europe, this game also contains frolicsome versos or poems that are viewed as lighthearted “clues” to the cards drawn from the deck. “Each image was photographed after being carefully selected from offerings at farmers markets, panaderías, taquerías, local mercados, or made in my own kitchen.” This photography exhibit is Co-Sponsored by Dairy Max, the local nonprofit Dairy Council representing more than 900 dairy farm families across eight states. In collaboration with Dairy Max, photographer Tracey Maurer created the MiPlato Special Edition Lotería, a limited edition piece that highlights dairy imagery while emphasizing nutrition. Many of the images created for the limited edition are featured in this exhibit.
