Let There Be Light! San Antonio Mastersingers Present Free Concert
The San Antonio Mastersingers, under the direction of Dr. Yoojin Muhn, will present a FREE concert on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 3 p.m. in the Edgewood Theatre of Performing Arts, located in the Edgewood ISD at 402 Lance Street, San Antonio, Texas, 78237. The event, made possible through a grant by the Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts and H-E-B, will feature “light” themed works, including Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna and Sure on this Shining Night, Dan Forrest’s Light Beyond Shadow, and Dolly Parton’s Light of a Clear Blue Morning.
The concert also spotlights a special connection between Mastersingers Director Dr. Yoojin Muhn and composer Morten Lauridsen. Currently the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Dr. Muhn earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Music with honors at the University of Southern California, where Lauridsen was Distinguished Professor of Composition and one of her instructors.
Lauridsen was also Composer-in-Residence of the Los Angeles Master Chorale from 1994-2001 and named an “American Choral Master” by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2006. In 2007, he received the National Medal of Arts – the highest artistic award in the United States – by the President in a White House ceremony “for his composition of radiant choral works combining musical beauty, power, and spiritual depth that have thrilled audiences worldwide.”
