DJ-From the Park Jam to Pro Tools
Saturday, October 4, 2025, 5pm-6:30pm
Anthony Gordon with Co-Educator Dfoy
This course will explore the historical importance of the DJ. We will explore the early stages of Hip Hop and how the break beat became the foundation for early hip hop. We will also explore how technology helped the explosion of Hip Hop music. No age limit.

Dr. Beatriz “Triz” Rodriguez
Hands-on workshop, engage in creative experimentation centered in the Hip Hop cultural self-and-community practice of name-choosing, name-writing, and name stylizing, known as “Style Writing”, a core-four element of Hip Hop culture. This class will include multi-level practice of calligraphic handstyling, learning to “tag” your names with chisel tips, paint markers, and aerosol spray paint. This class is open to ages 12 and up.

Join Andrea Vocab Sanderson & Aminah Decé for a timeline discourse about some of the most iconic women and their impact on the music genre of hip hop. We will focus on their cultural contributions to include music/lyrics/revolution, wardrobe, dance, and breakout televised performances. This class is open to ages 14 and up.

This workshop-style course will include a brief introduction to Hip Hop dance history. The class will include sharing music, dance composition for the beginner in Hip Hop, and the study of The Art of Street Dance. The class will culminate in a dance battle-style choreography workshop. This class is open to ages 10 and up.
MC & DJ-Rhythm and Rhyme

Let’s do some creative writing and exploring with end rhyme, couplets, internal rhyme and various schemes with percussion and boom bap beats. Performances and demos will be encouraged as we rhyme and speak together with call and response style. We will also look at the anatomy of a song and how lyric patterns play a role in building the musicality and storyline of a song. No age limit.

From the Drumbeat to the Backbeat

This course summarizes the concepts presented during the Hip Hop Summit and focuses on envisioning the landscape of Hip Hop culture from an AfroIndigenous lens, inviting participants to interpret & embody the elements of Hip-Hop through the raw forms of the cypher. This workshop is open to ages 10 and up.
