¡EN VIVO desde SALUTÉ! Conjunto Music, Chicano Art, y el Corazón de San Anto (EXHIBITION PREMIERE & PERFORMANCES)
Working closely with Azeneth G. Dominguez over the course of a decade, curator Bonnie Ilza Cisneros presents a group art and archive exhibition that celebrates and documents facets of the history of Saluté International Bar. Memory is subjective, and we all remember the past differently, so this project is one attempt to archive a landmark made from the love of live music.
Saluté was a world-renowned live music venue that showcased the best of the best progressive/avant-garde Tejano Conjunto music, exhibited contemporary Chicano art, and served the community as a cultural space in the heart of the historic San Antonio nightlife district known as the St. Mary’s Strip from 1987-2012.
En Vivo desde Saluté features art, archives, and performances by Marisela Barrera, Juan Tejeda, Joan Frederick, Eduardo “Plata” Hernandez, Joan Frederick, Ian Tyler Ibarra, Terry A. Ybañez, Vincent Valdez, Fernando Lopez, NOPALLI, Juan Ramos, M. Vázquez Vasquez, Rigoberto Luna, Joanna Armijo Zamarron, y muchos más, plus the debut of “El Corrido de Saluté” by la Reina del Acordeón, Eva Ybarra.
This project is made possible by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture Individual Artist Grant in collaboration with San Antonio Public Library’s Latino Collection & Resource Center.
