Celebrating Forgotten Filipino Leaders: The Delano Manongs Film Screening and Discussion

Celebrating Forgotten Filipino Leaders: The Delano Manongs Film Screening and Discussion

Join us for an incredible event at the Carver Library in San Antonio, TX, USA! We're thrilled to present a special screening of documentary short films about the Delano Manongs, the Filipino farm workers and labor organizers who started the Delano Grape Strike of 1965, fought alongside more widely known Cesar Chavez and co-founded the United Farm Workers union. The screening will be followed by a lively discussion with filmmaker Emilio J. Virata Jr.

In partnership with AAPIs for Justice, who started an awareness campaign about Larry Itliong in 2022, this is the first community event of the newly chartered San Antonio chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS). FANHS is the organization that initiated commemorating October as Filipino American History Month in 1992.

We will feature:

The Delano Manongs: Forgotten Heroes of the United Farm Workers (Marissa Aroy, 2014)

Profits Enslave the World: A Song Across Generations (Emilio J. Virata Jr., 2023)

Claiming Space: "Gintong Kasaysayan, Gintong Pamana" LA's Historic Filipinotown Mural (Emilio J. Virata Jr., 2022).

Discover the remarkable stories of Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz, who played a pivotal role in the US labor movement. Through these thought-provoking films, we'll shed light on their struggles, triumphs, and the lasting impact they made.

Immerse yourself in their inspiring journey as we explore the challenges faced by Filipino farmworkers in the United States. Learn about their contributions to the historic Delano Grape Strike and their fight for fair wages and better working conditions.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to honor these incredible leaders and their legacy. Reserve your spot now and be part of this eye-opening event!
