Bird's-eye View : A printmaking Exhibition by Rachel Kamata
Enzminger Studio is pleased to present Bird’s-eye View, a solo exhibition by San Antonio-based artist Rachel Kamata, opening Saturday, August 9 from 7 to 10 PM.
Through a collection of linocut, intaglio, and screenprint works, Bird’s-eye View explores the imprint of transportation infrastructure on San Antonio’s landscape—examined from the vantage points of creatures who fly above and live within it.
This exhibition captures compelling glimpses of animals, including ourselves, as they navigate the complex and often disorienting systems that shape our city. Aerial perspectives of highways intertwine with close encounters with urban wildlife, inviting viewers to consider how we adapt—and are adapted by—the built environment.
Rachel Kamata’s work combines political awareness and ecological reflection, drawing from a practice rooted in sustainability. She primarily uses natural linoleum and salvaged materials such as recycled fabric and plastic. Her bold, layered prints mix the monumental with the mundane, flipping scale and meaning to reframe the familiar.
A graduate of the University of Rochester with a BA in International Relations and Studio Arts, Kamata is also an alum of The Contemporary at Blue Star’s MOSAIC Program. Her work can be found in public murals throughout San Antonio.
