A particle of the influenza virus.

Bexar County has reported the first death of a child from influenza this flu season. Metro Health has confirmed the child died during the last week of November.

San Antonio Metro Health's Michelle Vigil says it is not known if the child was vaccinated against the flu.

This is the third pediatric death from complications of the flu in Texas this month. The first two children were not vaccinated against the flu.

"But it is very important for children to be vaccinated, or even pregnant moms, because this way babies also receive her antibodies as well from the vaccine," said Vigil.

Flu in Bexar County — and statewide — is currently high, and flu season lasts until spring. Vigil said if you haven't received a flu shot yet, do it as soon as possible.
