Jazz Fest, Diez Y Seis Dancing And A Charreada: Your Weekend's Here!

The  weekend is upon us and here's some fun events for you to consider.

First off at Travis Park--Jazz'SALive.

"Wonderful location, great shade," says musician Henry Brun. "It's been taking place there for 33 years."

It's a Saturday-Sunday event with Henry Brun and friends, including Grammy Award winners Flaco Jimenez and Augie Meyers, plus Spot Barnette and others on Saturday night.

"Joe Lovano on saxophone--the guy's hotter than hot right now."

The free event continues the next day.

"On Sunday we have Lao Tizer from Los Angeles...and then closing the night is going to be Kirk Whalum, which has always been a hometown favorite," Brun says.

Food and drink are available to what Brun says is a great family event.

"Take your kids out. They'll be able to have fun while you enjoy some good music from San Antonio and elsewhere," he says.

And it's Diez Y Seis de Septiembre. Where better to celebrate than the Guadalupe? The Guadalupe Dance Company celebrates a quarter century of dancing with Mariachi Azteca de America, with newly choreographed dances as well as traditional, colorful Folklorico dancing.

Then on Saturday afternoon at 4, head to the South Side to the San Antonio Charro Ranch for a Charreada. While essentially a Mexican rodeo, it's far different from a western rodeo. Amazing equestrian skills, colorful clothing and tradition handed down for several centuries.
