Winter Blows In Just In Time For Holiday Events

Looking ahead to arts and culture events over the weekend in South Texas, Crystal Paul from Artpace talks about tonight's Jazz on the Roof event.

"This round is a tribute to '60s Miles Davis with the Adrian Ruiz Quintet."

For those who haven't been to the rooftop jazz events, Paul describes the setting like this.

"Well, we're right on the outside of downtown, so when you get up to our rooftop you can look out and see the heart of San Antonio," she said.  "It's a members only event for Artpace or KRTU 91.7 Jazz Members, and it's pretty great."

That's happening tonight at Artpace's 445 North Main facility. Saturday, if you're looking to start your holiday season in a small town way, hit I-10 west and go to Kerrville for their holiday parade. Here's Terry Cook.

"We will have over 80 floats in the parade. The event will start at 6 p.m. in the evening going from Water Street in downtown Kerrville and ending at the courthouse."

I jokingly asked how people were going to see the parade in the dark.

"Yeah, that's where the lighted parade part comes in," he laughed. "All the parade floats are supposed to have lights on them. About three-fourths of the floats will have Christmas music. We've got some choirs that'll be in the parade."

If instead you want to stay in town to get some major holiday voltage, Taylor Nurmi tells us about one event just north of downtown.

"This Saturday we will be illuminating our campus with nearly one million Christmas lights."

That Campus is the University of the Incarnate Word and the event is called Light the Way. The San Antonio River actually begins on the UIW campus.

"We like to say we're at the headwaters so we turn on our lights and then the day after Thanksgiving down on the river they turn on theirs."

The event is held at Benson Stadium at 7:30p.m.
