Jazz'SALivecontinues a 32-year long tradition with its free festival in Travis Park, in downtown San Antonio.
Noah Almanza is President of the San Antonio Parks Foundation. He says the national and local artists will perform.
“We have Tower of Power. We have the Rippingtons. We have Joe Posada [Grammy Winner Joe Posada]…Soul Track Mind. We have a little bit of everything, in terms of music.”
Green Home Tour
Saturday take a road trip to Fredericksburg for a look at how homeowners are conserving energy and living in harmony with the environment.
John Watson is executive director of Fredericksburg Shines, a tour of ten homes that showcases sustainable living.
He says the homeowners have tried a few things that backfired, and the rest of us can learn from that.
"Absolutely—that’s the whole point in this. Why re-invent the wheel?”
A sustainably-sourced food truck- the Big Pig - will be parked along the tour route.
The Saturday tour is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets cost $25 a person.
Azul Barrientos
Folklorist and performer Azul Barrientos is onstage Saturday night at the Esperanza in San Antonio, with performances that blend music with music history.
"We’re having a concert called Serenata Mexicana. The event is going to pay tribute to singer/songwriter Jose Alfredo Jimenez, who is probably the most famous writer of Rancheras.”
Rancheras are a genre of Mexican music that Barrientos thinks of as the Mexican version of blues.
A donation of $5 per patron is recommended.
“Which means it’ll be great if you have $5, but you’re not turned away,” she said.
