San Antonio Choral Society's 50th Anniversary Party

The San Antonio Choral Society’s Jennifer Seighman is back from Europe, and she’s taken note of a special date.

“This is our 50th Anniversary season, so we’ll be starting off this weekend with a 50th Anniversary Alumni Concert, which will be our chorus, joined by the orchestra and soloists. We’ll be performing the 'Gloria,' from Bach’s Mass in B-Minor. It's such an exceedingly joyous way to celebrate our fiftieth!”

Joyous it is, and very special, and a lot of planning’s gone into this.

“We will have a reunion of former singers, accompanists, and directors, a group that spans 50 years of the choral society, so it’s a really exciting concert for us this weekend.”

And this comes on the back of a fascinating European summer.

“We went to Germany and Austria for ten days and it was just absolutely phenomenal.”

But it wasn’t just a summer vacation, there was singing involved, in several cities.

“We were singing in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. We did a couple of concerts, one with a choir in Munich, a joint concert. Another with a choir in Vienna. We did a few impromptu flash mobs, one at the Abbey in Melk, and we kind of gathered around in the front and sang one of our pieces, so it was really exciting."

Sounds like fun.

“It was a lot of fun, to make music in some of these historic places, which have been around since the 11th century, and to just think of all the music that’s gone on there. It was just fantastic to be a part of that.”

We’ve more on the San Antonio Choral Society's Sunday 10/19 performance here.
