Some San Antonians have been waiting with baited breath to see who will be appearing at the upcoming book festival. I've got the details but first, for those of you who don’t know about the .
“It’s just a chance for some of the nation’s best writers to be in conversation with one another and for people in San Antonio to engage with them for free," said San Antonio Book Festival Literary Director Clay Smith. "This festival is a gift to the city.”
The festival begins downtown with panels at Central Library and the Southwest School of Art. Those panels will be full of authors talking about books, ideas and writing. So the big question: Who is coming?
"Jane Pauley, who of course was on the 'Today Show' -- her new book is called 'Your Life Calling: Re-Imagining the Rest of Your Life.' Probably the most noteworthy Texas book to come out last year is 'The Sun,' which is by Phillip Meyer. You know Brian Floca? His book 'Locomotive' just won the Caldicott a few weeks ago, and of course that’s one of the major children’s book awards. Of course, Sandra Cisneros, literary legend in San Antonio, and elsewhere. Laura Lippman, now known as the best-selling mystery writer, actually used to be a writer at the San Antonio Light. Barry Lopez, who won the national book award, has a new book, and he’ll be talking about that. There’s also a cooking tent with some of the nation’s best chefs sponsored by Central Market, and a very vibrant children’s area. You can wander in and out of sessions, and you can get those books signed, and it’s all free and open to the public," Smith said.
You might even be able to meet your favorite author.
"Well yeah, that’s what we aim to happen," Smith said.
