Husband and wife duo present romantic sonatas

The busy cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han are among the most influential classical musicians in the world. As performers, recording artists, educators, artistic administrators AND cultural "entrepreneurs," they set the standard. David and Wu's musical activities also include running ArtistLed, the "first musician-directed and Internet-based recording company," serving as Artistic Directors of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and as Artistic Directors of Music@Menlo, a chamber music festival they founded in Silicon Valley.

This Sunday afternoon, they will play music by Brahms, Messiaen, Chopin, and Richard Strauss. John Clare spoke with Wu Han about their concert, recordings, and the first time David and Wu played together:

"There were a whole bunch of recitals, he was entering the Piatigorsky Competition - which then he won! Chopin Sonata was on the program, and I remember many people came backstage and asked us, 'Are you guys married?' 'No,'  I was like 'No way!'"

John Clare is comfortable behind a microphone, streaming video or playing violin. A former broadcaster for NPR, John has previously worked with Voice of America, the Canadian Broadcast Corporation and stations in Kansas, Nevada, California, and Pennsylvania.
