Kerr County officials said Friday that there are no reports of anyone missing following this week's flooding, a sharp contrast to last year's devastating disaster.
Sheriff Larry Leitha said the county was better prepared for this flood event and that the new flood warning system, including its backup failsafe, performed as intended.
"The good news and the best news right now is that we don't have any reports of anybody missing, and I'm really proud of that," Leitha said. "So I think we're in really good shape."
Officials also outlined the extent of the damage. Kerr County Commissioner Tom Jones said six of the county's 19 bridges sustained major damage, though some have not yet been fully assessed because crews have not been able to safely reach them.
One person died in Kerr County after the mobile home he was in was swept away by floodwaters. State officials have confirmed a second flood-related death in Uvalde County, bringing the statewide death toll to two.
