Attorney General Gonzales Warns of 'Complacency'

In a conversation with NPR's Juan Williams, Gonzales lays out the goals for his term of office, including "the protection of this country."

Gonzales cautions against "complacency" in thinking about terrorist threats and setting priorities, but he adds that U.S. officials whose actions are "inconsistent with our legal obligations" will be held accountable, including abuses that took place at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison.

The new Department of Justice chief, noting that increased emphasis on immigration processing and status have placed the system under a strain, said that his department will review its practices.
