When you go to the website for the San Antonio convention and visitors bureau and watch it's promotional video for the city - it's a little under whelming to put it kindly.
It's called ICONS, and it shows the Alamo, The Missions, the Riverwalk, The Tower of the Americas, and the River Center Mall.

It's not going to rock you - and show you the other side of San Antonio that some say is what the tourism market is looking for.

Today the San Antonio City Council voted to make the tourism bureau an independent non-profit.
Being able to raise more money to pitch San Antonio, and maybe thinking of a new fresher face to the 300 year old city, were just a couple of the reasons for spin-off.

Does the city need to "get real" about the direction of the city's image? Robert Rivard of therivardreport.com thinks so, and questions the underlying assumptions the city has about what people want to see.
