Houston Astros Are Headed To The World Series

Oct 23, 2017

From Texas Standard:

For the second time in team history, the Houston Astros punched their ticket to the World Series. It took all seven games against the New York Yankees for the Astros to win the right to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the major league baseball crown. The first game against the Dodgers airs Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.

The Houston Astros are going to the World Series. They beat the New York Yankees 4-0 Saturday night in Minute Maid Park in Houston — the series went seven games.

The only other time the Astros have made an appearance in the World Series was in 2005 when they lost to the Chicago White Sox.

According to the MLB Stat of the Day: The Astros are the first team to reach the World Series as an American League team (2017) and as a National League team (2005).

Jeff Bagwell, who spent his entire 15-year career with the Houston Astros, has made it into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Bagwell is only the second player in franchise history to be inducted as an Astro. He joins Craig Biggio, who was inducted in 2015.

Bagwell earns the recognition after his seventh season on the ballot. He’s joined by Ivan Rodriguez and Tim Raines in the Hall of Fame’s 2017 class.
