Latino Students

Former students at the Blackwell School in Marfa, Texas, who were once banned from speaking Spanish, have worked for years to preserve the school's history.

Latino students are just as likely as students of other races and ethnicities to be encouraged by their parents to go to college, but they're more likely to be responsible for helping their family pay the bills.

In a survey Texas Public Radio sent to students currently or recently enrolled in one of San Antonio’s public institutions of higher education, Hispanic students were just as likely as white students to take out loans. But the reasons they didn’t take out loans varied depending on their race and ethnicity.
