There are more than 30,000 young people in Bexar County between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither in school nor working. This demographic represents about 14 percent of their age group in the area.
A new opportunity center on the city's West Side, created to engage "disconnected youth," was developed by the City of San Antonio and local nonprofits Goodwill San Antonio and Communities in Schools, with assistance from the local business community.
How can a central resource hub like the NXT Level Opportunity Center help youth connect with key social institutions like education and workforce training?
Can a fresh chance at success and achievement make an impact on San Antonio's talent pool? How can vulnerable youth grow into their strengths and create better outcomes?
Guests:
- Rebecca Flores, education program administrator for the City of San Antonio
- Steven Hussain, chief mission services officer for Goodwill San Antonio
