The midterm elections will decide the fate of three local propositions which, if approved, would change the San Antonio City Charter and how municipal government is managed.
The suggested amendments – titled A, B, and C – were put on the ballot as a referendum by the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association, calling for the following changes:
A) Lowering required number of signatures for petitions presented to City Council;
B) Limiting the city manager's pay and tenure; and
C) Binding arbitration instead of a lawsuit as the City and the fire union continue to negotiate over an unresolved collective bargaining agreement.
District 6 representative Greg Brockhouse is the only member of the San Antonio City Council to publicly support all of the proposed amendments.
Brockhouse has been involvedwith the San Antonio fire and police unions before winning office in 2016.
