The May 18 shooting at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas was the deadliest gun-related incident at a school since the death of 17 students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Eight students and two teachers were killed, and 13 more injured in the Santa Fe shooting.

Days after the incident, Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded by hosting three roundtable discussions about guns and school safety with various stakeholders at the Texas Capitol, with recommendations on how to prevent school shootings.

What came out of the first day of talks at the Capitol? Can momentum around the gun debate carry future policy forward?
