In Bexar County, 9-Term Commissioner Faces Newcomer In Democratic Runoff

Incumbent Bexar County Commissioner for Precinct 2, Paul Elizondo (left), and and challenger Queta Rodriguez (right) will face off in the Democratic primary runoff election May 22

Texas Public Radio's "The Source" is hosting a series of forums with candidates leading up the 2018 midterm elections. In Texas, more than 30 racesare in runoffs for a party's official nomination. Early voting for the May 22 primary runoffelections begins May 14. 

Two Democratic candidates for Precinct 2on the Bexar County Commissioners Court are headed for a runoff election on May 22. 

Incumbent Paul Elizondo, who has been representing Precinct 2 for thirty years, faces challenger Queta Rodriguez in his tenth and final bid for office. 

Rodriguez captured 30 percent of the vote in March, edging out fellow Democrat Mario Bravo by almost 1,000 votes. Elizondo finished with about 45 percent of the vote. 

Elizondo, a former educator and state representative, began his career in politics during the late 1970s. Rodriguez, a San Antonio native, retired as a Captain from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service. She comes from a family of public servants and sits on various local advisory boards

The winner of the runoff election will campaign against Republican Theresa Connolly in November.
