A four-mile stretch of San Antonio's Northeast side has been the center of a years-long revitalization project since 2014.
Major thoroughfares along the so-called Northeast corridor include Perrin Beitel, Nacogdoches, Naco-Perrin, and Thousand Oaks, also touching parts of Wurzbach Parkway, Northeast Loop 410 and O'Connor Road.
Vacant and underutilized spaces are the focus of Northeast Corridor Revitalization Plan, or NEC.
The project works to revamp infrastructure of commercial properties in the area – from landscaping to signs and store fronts – to encourage investment and boost the business community.
According to a market study of the NEC's most promising trade areas, about 100,000 people are expected to live within the corridor by the end of 2018.
How does increased investment affect residents and what changes have been made?
Initially a five-year project, what's next for the Northeast Corridor? How are the state, the City of San Antonio and local neighborhood associations working together to redevelop the area?
Guests:
- Rebecca Podowski, senior policy advisor for San Antonio District 10
- Rudy Nino, assistant director for the City of San Antonio Department of Planning & Community Development
- Bud Little, neighborhood president for Hills of Park North and NEC Steering Committee member
