San Antonio's Latinx creative scene may be on the rise, but where can local artists find support?
The San Antonio-based National Association of Latino Arts & Cultures is the only program of its kind, backing exclusively Latinx artists in a variety of disciplines, from visual and performing arts – like dance and filmmaking – to poetry and new media storytelling projects.
The nonprofit is host to one of the largest databases of contemporary Latinx artists in the country, advocates for the advancement of the arts on the national level and leads training and professional development workshops in various cities.
NALAC has also awarded $2.5 million in funding to artists in 35 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and México, with grants available specifically for San Antonio locals.
The organization announces a new class of grant recipients today, including 28 artists and 12 organizations, which will receive funding between $5,000 to $15,000 to use towards projects in 2018.
