Texas Matters: Joe Ely — A Songwriter In The Pandemic

Like everyone else, singer-songwriter Joe Ely has struggled to find a new normal in the time of the coronavirus pandemic. Playing live is not possible, of course, much to the disappointment of his many fans who appreciate Joe Ely on the stage — his energy, his musical talent and the joy he exudes when he performs.

He was holed up at home with his wife Sharon, surrounded by an empty studio, but also by dozens of songs he’d written and recorded at various times over his long career. They had the idea that they could do something with some of those songs during the pandemic.

Joe Ely has now sent out a message of love, compassion, and connection through the brand new digital album “Love in the Midst of Mayhem.”  Texas Public Radio contributor Yvette Benavides spoke to Joe Ely from his home near Austin about “Love in the Midst of Mayhem.”
