Fronteras: Documenting Human Stories On All Sides Of The Border With John Moore

This week on Fronteras:

One of the most famous photographs to illustrate the zero-tolerance immigration policy by the Trump administration is by photographer John Moore. Moore joined us on Fronteras to discuss the month prior to taking that famous photo.

A 2-year-old Honduran asylum seeker cries as her mother is searched and detained near the U.S.-Mexico border on June 12 in McAllen. The asylum seekers had rafted across the Rio Grande River from Mexico and were detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents before being sent to a processing center for possible separation.

Moore is a staff photographer and special correspondent for Getty Images. He has covered ebola in Liberia, healthcare in the U.S., as well as sports and entertainment. Moore has also covered undocumented immigration for 10 years.

FRONTERAS EXTRAA Decade On The U.S.-Mexico Border

Most recently, Moore photographed a 2-year-old Honduran girl in a bright pink jacket and pink sneakers, crying uncontrollably. The picture is shot from ground level as the toddler looks up at her mother, who is speaking with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection official.

Moore has compiled a decade’s worth of images in his photo book “Undocumented: Immigration and the Militarization of the United States-Mexico Border.”
