The UT Health Science Center announced this weekend it had received a gift from the Greehey Family Foundation that puts the Campaign for the Future of Health over its goal of $500 million dollars.
Before an audience of 1,500 attending the president’s gala Saturday night, UT Health Science Center President Dr. William Henrich announced the $5 million gift from the Greeheys.
Henrich told the audience that the Health Science Center needed a champion and he couldn’t think of a better one for this campaign. The Greeheys also had contributed a record $25 million in 2007.
The Greehey Family Foundation Endowment for Community Service will support faculty and student programs benefiting the health and well-being of the community.
The Greehey Family Foundation Fund for Community Service and Patient Needs will help address patients’ urgent medical needs.
In a statement, Greehey indicated he wished to continue the partnership with the Health Science Center to lead the way in medical research and to continue its mission of providing health and dental care to the working poor and homeless in the community.
The campaign also supports the South Texas Research Facility, whose research programs include neurology, cancer, airway and inflammation research, regenerative medicine and aging studies.
The largest president’s gala ever, the event raised more than $600,000 for ongoing research at the Health Science Center.
