From a Patriotic Pops performance, to a cave concert, to the Texas Salsa Festival, the holiday weekend holds the promise of plenty of fun here in South Texas.

First off head to the Tobin Center, where guest conductor Michael Krajweski says the San Antonio Symphony is going patriotic.

"This is going to be a program of American popular music and patriotic music. Very stirring program in honor of Memorial Day Weekend," he said.

They are doing a wide variety of patriotic music, with a long list of composers, including George M. Cohan, Irving Berlin, as well assongs by Leonard Bernstein, and John Phillip Sousa marches.

The Salsa Fest is Saturday at Hemisfair Park.

Then, the San Antonio Current's Cassandra Yardeni invites you to the Salsa Festival at Hemisfair Park.

"When guests arrive to the Texas Salsa Festival they'll be receiving a wooden nickel and some Texan original chips, and they will be able to sample all the salsas," she said.

These salsas have been created by people from all over the state. She said you get a taste of them all, then vote on the best in Texas. Yardeni added that there's also food, there's music, there's drink, and, given the hot weekend, “there is some natural shade throughout the park,” said with a laugh.

She said there will also be large tents with seating inside. The Texas Salsa Festival is Saturday only.

Then, on Sunday, head to Boerne to the Cave Without A Name, where cellist Patrick Moore said the Axiom Quartet will be performing.

"We're presenting a concert version of our album that we just released," he said.

As to what kind of music they play, Moore said, "We don't just love one type of music, we love all different genres of music.”

Moore added: "We start off the album with an electronic dance music piece, for string quartet, which is kinda crazy because it's a very virtuoso piece."

Concerts at the cave are about 100 feet underground, down 126 stairs to attend the concert.
