Another piece of history along the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River is going to be restored and turned into a park.
Bexar County Commissioners Court has accepted a donation of the Hot Wells Hotel and Spa from local developer James Lifshutz.
Betty Bueche, Director of Bexar Heritage and Parks Department says the donation of nearly four acres includes ruins and land.
“There are historic and cultural resources that include the Hot Wells Bath House ruins, about 3.79 acres around it, and a north wing structure that is approximately three stories high that would need full restoration,” said Bueche.
The first phase of the project will cost a little over $4 million. The county has already approved some funding. Another $1.5 million is needed.
The nonprofit Hot Wells Conservancy will help raise private sector and foundation funds for the ruins and site.
