Florida Police Arrest Suspect In Bar Shooting On Broadway That Injured 8

TPR News Staff

San Antonio police on Thursday announced an arrest in a June 12 shooting at a North Side bar that left eight people injured.

In a statement, SAPD said investigators secured eight aggravated assault/deadly weapon arrest warrants for Jenelius Crew, 37, who was located at a hotel in Miami, Florida.

Officers with the Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force and Broward County Sheriff’s Office took Crew into custody without incident. Crew was held at the Miami-Dade County Jail, the statement explained.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of Rebar, on the 8100 block of Broadway near Loop 410, around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Police Chief William McManus said the incident began when the suspect and his companions were denied entry into the bar because he was intoxicated.

"One of the two males made a statement, 'Don't you know who I am? I'm a UFC fighter from California,’” McManus explained. “He walked back to his car. Pulled out a long-rifle, walked across the street, and he opened fire."

McManus said five women and three men, ages 23 to 41, were shot, and are all in stable condition. On Saturday, June 13, a police statement said that "all are expected to survive." No fatalities were reported.

“It’s apparent that criminals don’t pay much attention to city limits, county and state lines or even the borders of the United States,” said Susan Pamerleau, a U.S. Marshal and former Bexar County sheriff, on Thursday, referring to Crew's arrest in Miami. “It’s the collaborative efforts and partnerships with state and local agencies that enable us to reduce violent crime across this nation.”
