Saving History With Everett Fly

Parish Photography

Everett Fly is trying to save black history from being forgotten. Black settlements across the U.S. have been swept away with the changing times, many without any record of their being there, no marker no nothing.

Once San Antonio also was the sight of several black settlements. These settlements were substantial, long lasting and contributed much to the area, Everett Fly's own family owns property in Nacodoches county and those deeds were from the Mexican Government, in Spanish. His story is one of challenging a mentor and finding a path.

The following track was recorded at the October 4, 2016 Worth Repeating with the theme "I Heard The Word." Worth Repeating is Texas Public Radio's live storytelling event series.

Paul served at Texas Public Radio from 2011 to 2025, most recently leading the Accountability Desk.
