Close to a thousand abortion rights advocates packed the State Capitol Wednesday to fight State lawmakers' attempts to defund Planned Parenthood.
The Rio Grande Valley’s Paula Saldana is with the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health and spoke out against bills aimed at further restricting abortion in Texas.
“When women’s rights are under attack, what do we do? We fight back. And that is exactly what we are doing here today, we are standing up and fighting.”
The rally outside the state capitol included former state senator and 2014 gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis.
“Planned Parenthood isn’t going anywhere and neither are we.”
Davis’ message was directed at Gov. Greg Abbott, who at the start of the session said taking on Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers was one of his top legislative priorities.
The rally at the capitol was in conjunction with a House State Affairs Committee hearing on legislation that prevents any state agency from having a business relationship with Planned Parenthood.
