Suspect In SAPD Officer Murder Got Married The Day Of His Arrest

Copy of marriage certificate obtained from Bexar County Clerk's office

The man suspected of killing a veteran San Antonio police officer got married at the Bexar County Courthouse just 6 hours before his arrest, according to County Clerk records.

The County Clerk’s office issued a marriage license to Otis Tyrone McKane at 9:57 a.m. Monday—less than a day after police say McKane gunned down Detective Benjamin Marconi in a squad car outside SAPD Headquarters.

Chief William McManus says McKane was arrested without incident after 4 p.m. Monday in far east San Antonio.

“At the time of the arrest, McKane was driving a vehicle—not the black Mitsubishi -- with an adult female and a 2-year-old as a passenger,” McManus said.

SAPD would not confirm whether the woman in the car was the same woman McKane married earlier in the day. McKane was last arrested by SAPD on an assault charge in 2012.

Police affidavits filed in District Court show that the Mitsubishi Galant with aftermarket black rims used in Sunday’s ambush led to McKane. An officer spotted the vehicle and determined it was registered to McKane and parked near his San Antonio residence.

SAPD began surveillance on the vehicle, and McKane was arrested without incident a short time later.
