New enrollment and renewals begin Tuesday for health insurance under the affordable care act.

If you don’t have health insurance and don’t enroll or if you don’t renew your plan, you could be subject to fines on your federal income tax returns.  For your insurance to take effect on January 1, you’ll need to sign up by December 15.  However, open enrollment continues through January 31.

This year there are fewer providers and higher premiums.  Enroll SA is helping people sort through the changes.  It’s a collaborative that includes hospitals, Bexar County, the City of San Antonio, grassroots, and community-based organizations working to make affordable health insurance accessible to our community.  They can help you through EnrollSA.com or by calling 211.

Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace can be done online through HealthCare.gov.
