Gov. Greg Abbott is on his way back to the Governor’s Mansion in Austin after undergoing surgery and spending four days in the hospital at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Abbott suffered second and third degree burns on his knees, legs and feet from scalding hot water he came in contact with at a lodge in Wyoming. He developed a bacterial infection and required skin grafts.John Wittman with the Governor’s Office says the surgery was successful and doctors kept Abbott hospitalized to make sure his wounds had healed properly.
“Obviously we wanted to make sure the governor was receiving the care he needed to make sure he had a speedy recovery," Wittman said. The injuries forced Abbott to cancel plans to attend the National Republican Convention in Cleveland next week.
