A bereaved community will say goodbye to Father Eddie Bernal this week.
The well-known community and parish leader who urged his community to place equality, inclusion, and love for all in their hearts, regardless of differences, passed away suddenly Sunday.
Dozens of Facebook posts told stories of Father Eddie's involvement in the community, from his guest appearances as a drummer and guitarist with local musicians to his encouragement of others to run marathons.
Father Eddie was well-known to his parishioners, having performed many marriage ceremonies over the years, and leading St. Benedict's Catholic Church with a smile. Friends said Father Eddie always had a happy spirit.
A rosary is scheduled for his home parish St. Benedict's on Thursday evening. Another public rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2016, at St. John Berchman's. A funeral mass and ceremonial procession are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Saturday, June 4, at St. Rose of Lima Church.
