Alameda Theater May Be New Home For Texas Public Radio

Texas Public Radio’s President and CEO Joyce Slocum has confirmed that the public radio station may be moving its headquarters to the historic Alameda Theater in downtown San Antonio.

Slocum says TPR, Bexar County and the City of San Antonio have initiated discussions about a potential partnership that would restore the art deco theater on West Houston Street.

The discussions have focused on the possibility of reopening the now–vacant theater as an event venue that would reflect the theater’s culture and history.

The city of San Antonio is the owner of the property and theater which was once a performance site for many great artists in what was called the Mexican golden age.

TPR has also looked at other sites for relocating its headquarters.
