The U.S. Air Force has released the names of two people killed at Joint Base San Antonio – Lackland in what is being classified as workplace violence.
Initial reports of an active shooter put the base on lockdown Friday morning.
The 502nd Air Base Wing confirmed on Saturday afternoon Air Force Lt. Colonel William A. Schroeder and Technical Sgt. Steven D. Bellino of the 37th Training Wing were found dead Friday morning at Lackland’s Medina Base Annex.
Lt. Colonel Schroeder was the commander of the 342nd training squadron. Sgt. Bellino was a student in the same squadron.
The bodies of both men were discovered by Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies responding to an active shooter call just before 9a.m. Friday. Two glock handguns were found nearby.
The Sheriff’s office initially speculated this was a murder-suicide; the Air Force, which is still conducting its investigation, has not confirmed that or provided any further details on what happened.
