Wildflowers Are Blooming All Over Texas

The spring rain has fallen, the air has warmed, and the wildflowers are blooming. A drive in almost any direction will lead you to beautiful patches of color. There are wildflowers all over the state right now.

“I think the flower this year is going to be the Indian Paintbrush,” said Julie Marcus. She is Senior Horticulturist at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. “They really like those moist fall/winters. And when we have winters like that, they really will put it on.”

The flowers are really blooming in the Hill Country.

Bluebonnets are also popping up all over the area. Many people will be taking drives into the country this weekend to get that perfect picture.

“When you’ve got a field of bluebonnets, if everybody’s plopping their baby down that mushes the bluebonnets down. If you can find a little spot that you can kind of wiggle into that’s already mushed, that will preserve the display for the rest of us,” said Marcus.

It’s also advised that you don’t stop along busy roads and don’t trespass on private property.
