Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon Resigns Early

State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon, a San Antonio Democrat, intended to finish out her term before relinquishing her long-held seat.  

But the San Antonio Express-News is reporting the Eastside representative notified Gov.Greg Abbott she will end 20 years of service effective Sunday.

The Eastside representative has battled cancer and other illness for several years.

The governor will now decide on calling a special election.
