San Antonio Officer Allegedly Tries To Steal Ammunition

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio police officer has been arrested after allegedly trying to shoplift ammunition from a sporting goods store. Officer David Nieto faces a misdemeanor theft charge in Tuesday afternoon’s off-duty incident while with his children, ages 1 and 3.

The 31-year-old Nieto was released Tuesday night on $1,000 bond. Investigators say the ammunition is worth less than $500. Chief Anthony Trevino says in-store security officers used surveillance cameras to monitor Nieto, who allegedly tried to conceal items. He was arrested after going through the cash registers without paying for the ammunition.

Nieto, who’s been a San Antonio officer for three years, has been placed on administrative leave. Online jail records do not list a defense attorney to speak about the case.
