A San Antonio congressman will ask the U.S. House to investigate why the federal government is calling into question the citizenship of Hispanics in Texas.
Democratic Congressman Joaquin Castro said the State Department isn’t just denying the passport requests of Americans living along the Texas-Mexico border, that one case involves a man in the San Antonio-area, who called his congressional office for help.
“I have a case right of a veteran, who’s being denied a passport and has not been able to get that passport, so I’m asking for full accounting from the State Department of how many people are being denied their full rights of citizenship,” Castro said.
Castro is also asking for a full congressional investigation into the Trump administration’s practices and authority to conduct what he called targeting.
Castro said the State Department has not yet provided his office with the number of citizens whose passport requests were denied this year.
The House comes back into session on Sept 4.
