Three Truckloads Of Government Property Found At County Employee Home

Bexar County

A warrant has been issued for a former Bexar County employee who allegedly stole truckloads of county property to sell on Craigslist.

The former employee was caught after the buyer of a laptop reportedly found documents from the Bexar County Fire Marshall’s office on the computer’s memory.

Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed’s office issued a statement late Thursday that said the buyer turned in the computer to the police department, who handed the investigation over to the county.

The statement said a search warrant had been executed at the home of former county employee Mario Rene Castillo. Officials said Castillo had been with the Bexar County Purchasing Department since 2010, and that the laptop was still listed as inventory owned by Bexar County.

The district attorney statement said investigators found numerous items owned by Bexar County at the man’s home, including computer monitors, furniture, cameras, DVD players and smart phones, and that it took three trucks to haul away the stolen items on Wednesday.

They said many of the items were still listed for sale on Craigslist.
