From richly textured fiber pieces to expressive paintings, elegant ceramics to mixed-media collages, Season of Lights offers a wide range of affordable, one-of-a-kind artworks—ideal for thoughtful gifts or for adding something special to your own home. Each piece reflects the imagination and warmth of the season, showcasing the exceptional talent of our creative community.The exhibition was juried by Patricia A. Karr, former owner of Artisans – A Texas Gallery in Fredericksburg, a respected space known for its vibrant curation of Texas-based fine art and fine craft. With years of experience managing exhibitions, Karr brings a keen eye for originality, quality, and accessibility, ensuring that Season of Lights reflects the very best of SAAL+M’s member artists.Visitors are warmly invited to the Public Opening Reception on Sunday, November 16, from 3–5 PM, where they can meet the artists and purchase works directly from the exhibition—take-home purchases are available immediately.As an added celebration, SAAL+M will host a Tax-Free Holiday Thank-You on Friday and Saturday, December 5 & 6, allowing visitors to shop tax-free in all galleries—including the Small Works Gallery and the Members Upstairs Gallery—thanks to the museum’s nonprofit status.

The Bugs, Bikes, & Botany: Nature Adventure Kit Program invites families to experience the Mission Reach from a whole new angle—a bug’s-eye view! A Charlie Brown Christmas follows Charlie Brown as he sets out to discover the true meaning of the holiday season. Despite the decorations, presents, and cheerful spirit all around him, Charlie feels something is missing. With guidance from Lucy, Linus, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang, he takes on directing the school Christmas play, hoping it will help him find what the season is really about. Based on the beloved television special, this faithful stage adaptation features the original score, gentle humor, and a timeless message about love, community, and simplicity. Don’t miss this heartwarming holiday tradition for the whole family!

Join San Antonio Parks & Recreation to view stars at night above our Natural Area parks. Observers of all ages are welcome to explore the night sky and learn about constellations and the planets! This event is presented by the San Antonio Astronomical Association.
A pillar of the Second Saturday ArtWalk, this monthly outdoor pop up art market hosts local artists, makers, & vendors, often featuring a different school, start-up, or non-profit. So come out to support your local creatives, enjoy some tunes, and grab a bite to eat at our guest food truck! The ArtWalk includes galleries inside 1906, plus those around the corner on Lone Star Blvd, as well as across the tracks on LaChapelle, and along S. Flores, not to mention other pop up markets!Free & open to the public
This year, our FREE movie nights on the Will Naylor Smith River Walk Plaza come with a twist! Screenings now happen on Saturdays, featuring quarterly themes showcasing some of your favorite films.
Join us on the second Saturday of the month for a perfect evening under the stars. The plaza opens at 6 PM, and the movie begins at 7 PM. Bring your lawn chairs or a cozy blanket to enjoy the show on our stunning 32-foot LED video wall! Full concessions and a bar will be available to enhance your movie experience.

Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
Shows are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM. Special shows on December 13 at 2 PM and December 23 at 7 PM.
