Town Hall: The Future of the Frost Bank Center, 2/1/25
Discussions of the Spurs leaving the Frost Bank Center are already underway. We would like to ensure that political decision makers have all the necessary details and robust community input before moving forward. Commissioner Tommy Calvert invites residents from all over Bexar County, especially the Eastside, to discuss what to do with the Frost Bank Center if the Spurs leave and what downtown residents need if their new arena is built in Hemisfair Park.
Town Hall Details
Saturday, February 1, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum Frontier Room, 3201 E. Houston, San Antonio, TX 78219
As discussions among elected officials move forward, many unanswered questions remain, such as how much money the City of San Antonio will contribute for a new arena, or what funding the County will need for the Frost Bank Center to survive for the next twenty years, so that the Eastside doesn’t have an Astrodome sitting as a dead carcass on an economically vibrant piece of property.
Commissioner Calvert also points to the opportunity to reimagine the Frost Bank Center and the surrounding areas. Potential ideas include creating green spaces, a food court for Eastside businesses, pedestrian bridges and attractions connecting Willow Springs Golf Course to the Freeman Coliseum grounds, education facilities, housing, job and contracting opportunities will all be discussed with the community.
Key elected officials and stakeholders, including State Senator Roland Gutierrez, Senator Jose Menendez, Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, Trustee Gloria Ray, Trustee Alicia Sebastian and Derrick Howard, manager of the Freeman Coliseum grounds, have been invited to provide insights and answer questions.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Bexar County residents to shape the future of their neighborhoods. Commissioner Calvert urges all interested residents to attend and be part of this critical conversation
