Strangers at a Feast

Strangers at a Feast
Jump-Start offers a new devised work led by founding company member Chuck Squier.
Last summer, Squier invited folks he knew he’d like to collaborate with to develop a performance piece with him. Anna Harwin, Jenny Salinas, Linda Cuellar, Lisa Suarez, Michele Brinkley and Susie Monday joined the project even though they had only the title, STRANGERS AT A FEAST, to begin their work.
Through writing exercises, improvisation, discussion, rehearsals and each cast member developing her character, the show took shape. Describing the show’s premise, Squier said, “Initially we see only a stranger’s differences, their ‘otherness.’ However, through interaction and self-revelation, the distance between us decreases. Of course, those interactions can be characterized in any number of ways from friendly to antagonistic, poignant, shocking or absurd.”
STRANGERS AT A FEAST is about an hour long and is presented without an intermission.
Jump-Start Performance Co. is dedicated to the discovery and support of new ideas in the arts and arts education. By encouraging visionary thought and non-traditional approaches, Jump-Start is committed to the creation of art that is a lasting voice of diverse cultures and communities.
